This week Sophia is joined by Erin Deayton to discuss their experience of Chinese food in Boston and how it compares to what they were used to growing up with in Hong Kong. They dive into Chinatown, Panda Express, and P.F Chang’s to look at the different options of Chinese food you can find in Boston. They also touch on Chinese food in other places around the world providing points of comparison for why these might be different from what is found in Hong Kong and how it differs from their experience in Boston.

The aim of my remediation was to be able to dive deeper into the more personal aspects of my essay where I touch on my personal experience regarding Chinese food. I wanted to share stories of having Chinese meals in different parts of the world to highlight the differences between them. I felt that a podcast would be the most appropriate way to communicate this information as it allows you to hear a voice behind the words. In comparison to a recipe blog, which may also contain anecdotes, a podcast allows the listener to hear the tone and emotion behind the anecdote which I think is important when it comes to presenting ideas about food and how it makes you feel. In order to provide further evidence for the argument presented in my paper, I wanted to include an interview in my remediation to provide another person’s insight on the topic. A podcast seemed like the perfect medium for me to do this. Although a documentary is also an appropriate medium to include interviews, due to the fact that I only wanted to include one, I thought that a podcast would be most appropriate. Additionally, without the visual images, the podcast allows the listener to focus more on the content of the interview and the tone behind the story which I feel like communicates my point, how Chinese food differs and the different aspects that differ, most effectively. I really enjoyed creating this podcast as it gave me the opportunity to go into more detail on the aspects of my paper in which I was most interested in as well as have an enjoyable, insightful conversation with a friend.
