Food is a great way to represent a culture or country. For Vietnam, it can be the banh mi, banh seo, and of course the ca phe sua da; however, these dishes are not even one hundred percent fully Vietnamese. These dishes were influenced by the French. Why is it that a dish that is so representative of a whole country not be fully made by the country itself? What is it that makes a dish represent a culture? In this podcast, we will explore how food can represent a country and what that means personally to the speaker.

The purpose of my remediation was to explore deeper into the topic of my essay through more personal anecdotes. While the essay allowed the factual elements be highlighted, a remediation in the form of a podcast would allow me to portray personal anecdotes with more sincerity. Podcasts gives you more freedom to explain your thoughts and stories more effectively. This form would resonate towards the audience more than if it was just read on paper. This is because emotion and tone can be perceived through audio more easily. I was able to share my experience with Vietnamese coffee in a more casual sounding tone. I was able to add jokes, pauses, and informal language. Because the language is more causual the audience or listeners would be able to take in the information more easily. It almost resembles a conversation. Overall, I believe that a podcast was the best medium to transform my essay into. It allowed detail to be shared that was not able to be shared on a typed essay, otherwise the essay would seem to be rambling on too much and the audience would lose interest. I think a podcast however lets you do exactly that—ramble. It allows you to introduce many topics in a few minutes while keeping the attention of the listener. The process of creating a podcast was very fun and creative. I was able to play around with certain sounds, make a fun intro, I even included noises from a cafe to provide the audience with the feeling of being in an actual cafe. The podcast has allowed me to practice my creative and I have found that very enjoyable.
